A collection of handcrafted pottery from the village of San Juan de Oriente, Nicaragua. The majority of the artisans in this village work in small family units and have done so since pre-Columbian times.
With the use of a foot-powered wheel, traditional and contemporary designs begin to take shape. From the Geometric and nature designs to the technical challenge designs reminiscent of Escher, the artist's style and vision is expressed.
Mineral oxides are used most often for the colors and are Lead free. These pieces are fired at low temperatures in brick kilns and do not hold water. Dried flowers are recommended or a plastic liner may be used.
